Brad Bennett

Bradley Bennett is the Southern Poverty Law Center’s interim editorial director. He directs a team of writers and editors producing a variety of written material for the SPLC, including feature stories, commentaries, policy briefs, reports and other content.

Bennett has extensive communications experience, including as communications manager of the Alpha-1 Foundation, a nonprofit organization seeking a cure for Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that can result in serious lung or liver disease. He was executive editor of the South Florida Times, transforming the weekly community newspaper into an award-winning publication about the region’s African diaspora. The newspaper garnered several awards from the South Florida Black Journalists Association during his tenure, including awards for breaking news, enterprise reporting and community impact.

Bennett previously worked as a journalist at newspapers such as the Miami Herald, Detroit Free Press and the Sun Sentinel. He has worked abroad, serving as an assignment editor at The National, an English-language daily newspaper in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He also served in various communications roles for other organizations in the UAE.

Bennett volunteers as communications director and board member for Women in Training, a nonprofit founded by his daughters, which distributes menstrual, hygiene and dental products to underserved girls and nonbinary youth. He has taught as an adjunct journalism professor at Auburn University.

Bennett has a bachelor’s degree in English from Dartmouth College. He earned a Maynard Media Academy certificate in media management at Harvard University.
