Susan Corke

Susan Corke is the director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project. An international human rights advocate, she leads a team of investigators, analysts and writers who track and expose the activities of hate groups and other far-right extremists.

Corke previously served at the German Marshall Fund, where she was a senior fellow and executive director of the bipartisan Transatlantic Democracy Working Group. A former U.S. Department of State official who has defended and advanced inclusive democracy worldwide for over two decades, she has held multiple senior positions, including at the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor as well as the U.S. embassies in Moscow and Prague.

She is a co-author of The Democracy Playbook, a resource to fight authoritarianism and strengthen democratic resilience. Corke has served as director of Countering Antisemitism and Extremism at Human Rights First. She was director of programs for Europe, Eurasia and Southwest Asia at Freedom House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to defending human rights and promoting democratic change.

Corke earned a Master of Arts degree in international affairs from the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from William & Mary.
