Hana Haller Crowe

Hana Haller Crowe is the Southern Poverty Law Center’s director of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL). As director, she is responsible for developing and implementing an approach to MEAL that builds an organizational culture that uses data, learning and innovation to deliver meaningful results from the SPLC’s initiatives.

Previously, Haller Crowe was the senior director for Global Research & MEAL at Habitat for Humanity International. Her team helped the organization generate and use evidence to improve the quality of its programs as well as engage meaningfully with communities. She also helped actively engage the staff of Habitat’s network in the development of their Theory of Change, the organization’s vision for the future.

Earlier, Haller Crowe was an accountability adviser at Save the Children supporting the setup of its organizational MEAL framework as well as the MEAL systems used in humanitarian responses. Haller Crowe was deployed to support emergency responses in Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Sudan, the United States and the West Bank and Gaza. 

Before working in humanitarian emergencies, Haller Crowe was a senior analyst at the American Red Cross Tsunami Recovery Program in Washington, D.C. She oversaw reporting across the organization’s recovery programs in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Previously, Haller Crowe was a policy analyst at the Office of Development Studies at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in New York. Her research at UNDP focused on the financing of global public goods. 

She has a master’s degree in international political economy and development from Fordham University in New York and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines.
